Background Information
The total population of the province of Algeciras is 117.000 people. Algeciras is the second most populous city of Cádiz. The air quality information sent is related to the group of four municipalities of Bahia de Algeciras (Algeciras, Los Barrios, San Roque y La Línea de la Concepción), with a population of 232.364 people.

The city centre is located in the geographic coordinates 36º 11' N, 5º 27' W. It has an extension of 85,9 km2 and an average height of 20 meters over the sea.

Algeciras has a Mediterranean climate with oceanic influences. It is characterized by mild temperature conditions, regular and irregular character torrential rainfall.

The average annual temperature is 18ºC, while average summer temperature is around 21.2ºC. The average temperature in winter is 15.4ºC. The rains are moderate, with an annual average of 836 l/sqm. Algeciras has a fluvial port placed to the northwest of the city. The main industries are located near the port, as refineries, steel mills, petrochemical, chemical and electrical energy production.
