Background Information
The total population of the province of Granada is 907.000 people. 670.000 people live in the metropolitan area, and 235.000 live in the capital. The province has other towns with relatively high population, as Motril, with approximately 60,000 habitants.

The city centre is located in the geographic coordinates 37º 11' N, 3º 35' W. It has an extension of 87,9 km2 and an average height of 738 meters over the sea.

Granada has a Mediterranean climate of continental influence, characterized by cold winters with heavy frosts and hot summer.

The average annual temperature is 15ºC, while average summer temperature is around 23ºC. It is possible to get maximum temperatures of 35ºC under the sun in July and August.

The average temperature in winter is 7ºC. It is not usual minimum temperatures under 0ºC. The rains are moderated, with an annual average of 357 l/sqm.

In average, the city presents approximately 3000 annual hours of sunlight. It exist few differences between the winter months and the summer ones. Granada has an airport placed to approximately 25 km to the W of the city centre. It not exist big industries in the surroundings. The major environmental problems come derived from the road traffic.
